I have DSL/CABLE can I increase my speed?
If you have DSL (Digital Subsscriber Line) or
CABLE service from you providor increasing your speed would be dependent on a number of
factors.
- The area that you are presently located would be
governed by the central office that supplies you with the service. Another determining factor affecting
the possibility of speed increase is the equipment that your provider presently uses, new or older
technology.
-
- In the case of DSL the distance of the subscriber
from the central office is called a loop length that would adversely affect speed the further the copper
wire is from the central office.
- Cable internet access is contention-based, with users
arranged in contention groups off nodes that split the television and data signals at the cable
providoe's end. The speed of the network varies depending on how populated the node
is.
-
- Of couse in the case of both systems malware present
on the computers would have a direct affect on the speed of the DSL/CABLE connection because of the
resource robbing taking place by the malware on the system.
